First let me say I am very glad I own the set and the two expansion sets. The board if very nice and overall the pieces range from great to OK. My biggest gripe is some of the decisions made for the pieces. The Core set actually is my favorite and the pieces seem well made. My biggest gripe is that the queen is the main orc that killed Borimir (don't remember his name). At best he should have been a bishop because the entire kit lacks a Balrog, which blows my mind. The rooks are a bit small and could have been more imposing as massive tower of power for the dark forces. The Two Towers set, maybe its me, but the pieces don't seem to be quite as nice overall. I wish there had been more differentiation in the pieces, some larger or smaller (like the female piece should have been larger to be the queen, or smaller for a pawn). The Bara-Dur rook should have been larger, is smaller than the original Orthanc tower. We did not need two ents. Similar thoughts on the Return of the King Set. Final nitpick, some of the pieces simply don't fit on the side holders on the board, which makes no sense as that is where they are meant to be displayed. Still I love the set, but with just a few tweaks it could have been better (kinda like the movies themselves!). I would not play with the set, the metal is too soft and the small swords will break off very easily, so this is mostly for display.

Very disappointing quality. Perhaps the original sets from a few years ago were of better quality. The board "rocked" and was not level on a flat surface! Two of the pieces arrived with the bases having fallen off - cheap glue holding the pieces together. Playing pieces are detailed, but you need a magnifying glass if you are over 20 years old. For this price, you should expect top quality, not shoddy workmanship.

Comments about The Lord of the Rings Collector's Chess Set from Noble Collection:

Gorgeous set. Artful design. I just wish it was larger. Its not like the pieces are made of fine silver. Its just pewter. I would think that the detailing would have been easier if the pieces were twice the size. For the price, 25% bigger would have made it seem much more worth while. Greater size difference between the pawns and the rest would have been also more pleasing. The board is small enough and pieces so crowded you're tempted to move the pieces with a pair of long handled forceps. But its beautiful.

I love it but it could be a little more bigger to show off the pieces. In all the detail of the board and the pieces are nice but space is needed. I almost returned it but my wife knew I wanted it from all the talk I did before so she got it for me as a gift. If not I would of returned it by now.
